Welcome to freddybenn.com

I created the website to showcase and sell my paintings.

Biography

I was born in 1958 in West Plains, Missouri.  When I was young my family moved to northern Alabama, where I grew up.  I am largely self-taught in the field of Art.  I am color blind (actually I’m red-green shade blind), so some of the colors in my paintings may look odd.

Since adulthood, I have lived in Northern Alabama, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rolla, Missouri.  I currently live in Gadsden, Alabama, where I am a Professional Engineer for a Geotechnical consulting firm.

My paintings are in private collections in Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Missouri, Alabama, and Florida.

My portfolio includes over 330 paintings and drawings.  I have been painting with acrylics since 1982.  I typically produce about 15 paintings per year.

I have been influenced by artists such as Picasso, Braque, Gris, Leger, Dali, and Miro.

My painting themes have included: Dancing, Symbols, Still Lifes, Dreams, Dreamscapes, Visions, Animals, Africa, Nudes, Artists, Fishes, Mythology, Stories, Self Portraits, and a little bit in between.  Also, I will take requests.

Through the years, I have made small efforts to market my paintings.  In years past, I applied for several juried art shows with a few successful results.

Highlights of the art show era were:

Finalist in Design Competition for the “Sedona (Arizona) Jazz on the Rocks” jazz festival in 1994;

Participant in the juried exhibit “Paper In Particular” at Columbia College, Columbia Missouri; and

Participated in two Art Shows in Missouri.

I am also a woodcarver (approximately 100 small stylized animals and 10 masks), author, inventor, and poet.

Please browse around the site and contact me if you see something you like.
